Holli is a sophomore at the University of Tennessee studying graphic design, blending theory with hands-on experience to bring her ideas to life.
Holli works as a graphic designer for OAK Hospitality, a social media manager for Nicodem Creative, and a design cadet for Growco Lab, staying current with trends while refining her skills. Outside of school and work, she serves as the founder + president of AIGA UTK as well as the banner chair + graphic designer for Kappa Delta, always pushing her creative boundaries. Holli's diverse experiences have helped shape her approach to design, fueling my passion for impactful, collaborative projects.
Holli’s first design memory was watching her mom create graphics and illustrations. Her parents have always been super artistic, and it would show through in the activities and crafts she would do with them as a kid: easter egg painting, pumpkin carving, air dry clay, coloring, and drawing. She carried this love into her design journey now, and has been curating her own kind of style while following in her mother’s footsteps. She would describe her design aesthetic interests as minimalistic, bold, minimal color, clean, cut, grid-focused. Her favorite kind of graphic style is definitely Swiss. Some random things that inspire her design include coffee table books, luxury branding, minimalistic interior design.
Holli defines “Interaction Design” as: A design that people interact with in a physical way, where they have to perform an action that relates to user experience (eg. pressing a button, touching something, etc).
The concepts of UX and UI are very interesting to Holli. She feels as though they are something that is very prevalent in pretty much any design. It's important for a designer to consider how a user interacts with something, and what they experience when they do. She deals with it in her beginning careers, and is always herself how people will interact with what she creates for the real world. She was surprised to see how companies are utilizing AI on social media - such as the Aritzia Bag Chicago Bean Tik Tok and would like to learn more about how to use AI to morally amplify her designs.
Holli is VERY excited to learn how to incorporate my designs through HTML. Her mom is always talking about how useful it is for a designer to learn coding, so she’s looking forward to learning and practicing it as a growing designer!
Holli thinks that a print product and digital product are similar but have many differences.
